Climate Change & Just Energy Transition
Climate Change & Just Energy Transition
The Climate Change and Just Energy Transition program aims to address the urgent and growing threat of climate change by promoting a shift towards renewable energy and a just transition to a low-carbon economy. The program recognizes that climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable communities and that the transition to a low-carbon economy must be just and equitable, taking into account the needs and concerns of these communities.
The program focuses on engaging public finance institutions, including Export Credit Agencies, Development Banks, and Pension Funds, among others, to promote investments in renewable energy technologies, such as solar and wind, as well as energy efficiency measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It also advocates for policies and regulations that support the transition to a low-carbon economy, including the implementation of carbon pricing and the phasing out of fossil fuel subsidies.
The Climate Change and Just Energy Transition program emphasizes the importance of engaging and empowering communities in the transition process. It seeks to ensure that vulnerable communities are not left behind in the transition to a low-carbon economy and that they have access to affordable and reliable energy services.
Through research, advocacy, and education, the program seeks to build awareness and understanding of the impacts of climate change and the need for a just energy transition. It also works to build partnerships with governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to promote sustainable and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.
The program recognizes that the transition to a low-carbon economy will require significant investment and that funding must be mobilized to support this transition, particularly in developing countries. It also acknowledges that the transition to a low-carbon economy will create new job opportunities and economic benefits and seeks to ensure that these benefits are distributed fairly and equitably.
